The aftermath of one of Aucklands big summer events. It was not without its casualties.
This photo (by Paul Estcourt) appeared in the paper on the following monday.

TOSSED TEDS: Some of the stars of yesterday's annual Teddy Bears' picnic in the Auckland Domain never made it home. Long after the party was over, these forlorn characters sat waiting for a reunion which never came. Hours earlier they had been part of the 22nd annual Teddy Bears' Picnic, hosted by Auckland City Council and Meadow Fresh and attended by 30,000 people. If you recognise your bear, contact organiser.....

This atrocity shall not go unpunished! We shall hunt these bear-abandoners to the ends of the earth!!

Just curious, but what did they do with the left behind bears? My hope would be that they were all rounded up and given good homes, say at the local orphanage. Just my hope.

In Winnipeg we have a HUGE teddy bear picnic every summer. There's a place to donate bears to needy children, and I'd assume any "leftover" bears also get donated...

I presume if they weren't claimed they were rehomed via the City Mission. No further reports in the paper.

Around here, they are always donated to children's hospitals.
